女子バレーボール日本代表のエースでリオデジャネイロ・オリンピックで主将を務めた木村沙織（30＝東レ）が10月10日、自らのブログに「今年で50周年を迎えるＶリーグ。ここを自分のバレーボール人生最後の場所にしたい」と記し、今季の国内リーグを最後に現役を引退する意向を明らかにした。
木村は次のように記した。
今年で５０周年を迎えるVリーグ。
ここを自分のバレーボール人生最後の場所に したいと思っています。
また 東レアローズの一員でいられる事。
いつも応援してくださるファンのみなさまの前でプレーができる事。
ずーっと支え続けてくれた母の前で試合をし、妹と一緒にプレーができる事。
とても幸せに思っています。
また必死に 頑張って突っ走りまーす

そして自らの小学生時代の写真をアップし、最後に「24番から始まった私のバレーボール人生は最後、2番で締めくくりますっ」と締めくくった。
木村はVリーグ1部「プレミアリーグ」の東レに所属。Vリーグは10月末から来春にかけて行われる。
木村は埼玉県出身。成徳学園高（現・下北沢成徳高）2年の時に全日本代表に選ばれる。2004年、アテネ五輪代表となるが腰痛でほとんど出場機会はなく、08年の北京五輪では5位。10年に社会人バレーボール（Vリーグ）で最多得点部門の記録を塗り替え、Vリーグ日本記録賞を受賞。12年のロンドン五輪ではエースとして攻守ともに活躍し、日本女子バレーボール28年ぶりのメダルとなる銅メダルを獲得した。同年、トルコリーグに参戦し、14年に東レに復帰した。185センチ。
