2014年4月に韓国で修学旅行中の高校生ら304人が死亡・行方不明となった大型旅客船「セウォル号」沈没事故。
ほぼ3年を経て、船体の引き揚げ作業が始まった。
韓国海洋水産省は3月22日午前10時から、事故現場となった韓国南西部の珍島沖で試験引き揚げ作業を始めた。ハンギョレによると、午後3時30分ごろ、船体が海底から約1メートル浮き上がった。海洋水産省は「海底から浮き上がったことが確認されれば、船体を水平に保つための荷重調節作業を進める予定だ」と説明している。
■引き揚げを見守る遺族・行方不明者家族ら
通信社のNEWS1によると、22日午前6時ごろ、セウォル号事故の遺族や行方不明者の家族ら約70人が、事故当時に乗船者家族の拠点となっていたペンモク港を訪れた。
遺族らは焼香所を訪れ、犠牲者らの冥福を祈り、ペンモク港にとどまっている行方不明者の家族らに「長いこと待ったでしょう…」と声をかけて目を赤くした。
事故で犠牲となったクォン・スンボムさんの母は「引き揚げがうまくいって、まだ見つかっていない人も家族のもとに帰ってほしい。また、船体が安全に引き揚げられて、すべての真実が解明されてほしいと思います」と話した。「一方で、船に穴がたくさん空いていてうまくいかないのではないか、ちゃんと引き揚げられなかったらどうしようと不安です」とも打ち明けた。
別の遺族は「行方不明者の家族が昨晩から、セウォル号が無事に引き揚げられることを待っていた。いい結果が出るよう祈っています」と話した。
今回うまく行かなかった場合、引き揚げ作業は、次に潮が引く4月5日に延期される。
