中国・上海にある浦東国際空港の第2ターミナルで6月12日午後2時半（日本時間午後3時半）ごろ、爆発が起きた。中国国営放送のCCTVが、チェックインカウンターに閃光が走って爆発する瞬間を捉えた動画をTwitterに投稿している。
NHKニュースによると、4人が負傷した。上海の警察は、男が搭乗手続きのカウンター近くで瓶の形をした爆発物を爆発させたあと、刃物で自殺を図ろうとしたと発表し、男の背後関係などを捜査しているという。
