中国上海の観光地である外灘（バンド）で新年を祝うために集まっていた群衆が将棋倒しとなり、これまでに少なくとも３５人が死亡、４２人が負傷した。
新華社によると、新年を迎える直前に外灘の広場に集まった群衆が将棋倒しになった。何が将棋倒しを引き起こしたかは、現時点では不明。新華社は負傷者の多くは学生としている。
中国最大級のソーシャル・ネットワーキング・サービス（ＳＮＳ）、微博（Ｗｅｉｂｏ）に投稿された写真には、外灘に大勢の人が集まっている様子などのほか、救急車が待機するなか救急隊員が歩道に横たわっている負傷者を手当てしている様子などが写されている。
外灘は上海市内を流れる黄浦江沿いにある観光地。新年をここで迎えるために集まる群衆の管理について、当局はこれまでも懸念を示していた。［北京 １日 ロイター］
