プロ野球・日本ハムの大谷翔平投手（21）が6月5日、東京ドームで行われた交流戦の巨人3回戦に先発し、プロ野球公式戦の歴代最速となる163キロをマークした。四回にクルーズの4球目に投げ、結果はファウルだった。産経ニュースなどが報じた。
プロ２年目の２０１４年に１０月５日の楽天戦（札幌ドーム）で１６２キロを４度計測し、０８年に巨人のクルーンが出した公式戦最速に並んでいた。
大谷は岩手・花巻東高時代から球速１６０キロを記録し、１４年には７月１９日のオールスターゲーム第２戦（甲子園）で１６２キロをマーク。ことし３月２日に札幌ドームで行われた巨人とのオープン戦、５月１５日の西武戦（札幌ドーム）でも１６２キロを記録した。

大谷は試合後、「ファールになったので、あまり手応えがなかった。空振りを取れればもっと良かったですけど」と話した。
大谷はこの日、「5番投手」での二刀流で出場。打者としては三回に犠牲フライで打点を挙げ、六回にはライト前ヒットを放って、打席に立った試合の連続試合安打を「15」に伸ばした。
試合は日本ハムが巨人を6-2で下した。大谷は完投で4勝目。巨人は連勝が6で止まった。
