F/A-18E/F戦闘攻撃機「ライノ」がソニックブームを発生させ、通過時に水面を直撃する様子が見て取れる。

ソニックブームとは、航空機が音速(時速1225キロ)より速く飛行する時に発生するものだ。

航空機によって作り出された音の波は、機体がそれに追いつく時に一気に圧縮される。その結果、1つの衝撃波になって凝縮され、爆発音を轟かせる。

この動画は軍事専門サイトMilitary.comに投稿されたもので、アメリカ海軍の空母から撮影されているが、どの空母でいつ撮影されたのかについては不明だ。
