As an executive at Countrywide Financial, Foster alerted both her employer and Bank of America (which acquired Countrywide) to alleged subprime lending fraud she uncovered in 2008. For it she was fired, even though the warning led Countrywide to close most of its branches in Boston. (The firing was especially ironic given that Foster had warned both companies that bosses were retaliating against whistleblowers.)
