子供支援の国際NGO「セーブ・ザ・チルドレン」は5月4日、年次報告書「お母さんにやさしい国ランキング」の2015年版を発表した。1位は北欧のノルウェーで、日本は前年と同じ32位。先進7カ国の中では6位と、アメリカに次いで低い順位となった。
この調査は、「セーブ・ザ・チルドレン」が毎年「母の日」に合わせて行っているもので、2015年は世界179カ国を対象に、母と子の健康状態や教育環境、それに女性の政治参加など5つの指標で分析したという。
ランキングの上位は、これまで北欧諸国が占めてきたが、今年は2014年1位のフィンランドを抜いて、ノルウェーが首位となった。欧州以外の国で上位10カ国に入ったのは、9位のオーストラリアのみ。

日本は、妊娠・出産で母親が命を落とすリスクの低さが14位、5歳未満の子供の死亡率の低さが6位となるなど、母子の健康状態では順位が高い結果となった。一方で、日本の国会議員に占める女性の割合は、2月の時点で11.6％。総合ランキング最下位のソマリアや、アジアのインドや韓国よりも低い179カ国中140位で、総合順位を落とす大きな要因になった。
NHKニュースによれば、セーブ・ザ・チルドレン・ジャパンの大野容子さんは、「諸外国では、政党が擁立する候補者や議席の一定割合を女性に割り当てる制度の整備などが進んでいるが、日本はそうした国際的な流れについていけていない」などとコメントしたという。
