アルゼンチン海軍は3月15日、「違法操業中の中国漁船を撃沈した」と発表、動画を公開した。声明文で「問題の船は、沿岸警備隊の巡視艇と衝突しようとした。自分達の乗組員の命だけでなく沿岸警備隊の人員をも危険にさらされているように見えたため、発砲が許可された」としている。
AFP通信によると、この漁船は14日、プエルト・マドリン沖のアルゼンチンの領海内で操業していた。沿岸警備隊の停船命令を無視した上に、船体を巡視船に衝突させようとするなど抵抗をして、公海への逃亡を図った。沿岸警備隊は警告の上で発砲、漁船は沈没した。漁船の乗組員は全員救助されたという。
産経ニュースによると、沈没した漁船には、「魯煙遠漁10」の船名が表示されていた。この船名は、中国・山東省の煙台にある漁業会社に所属するものと同じで、この会社の公式サイトでは、所属漁船がアルゼンチン沖ではイカ漁などを行っているとしている。アルゼンチン海軍が外国船籍の船艇を沈めたのは15年ぶりだった。
■2010年には尖閣諸島付近で体当たり事件
日本近海でも2010年9月7日、尖閣諸島付近で操業中だった中国漁船が、海上保安庁の巡視船2隻に体当たりする事件が起きている。第11管区海上保安本部は8日に船長を公務執行妨害の疑いで逮捕したが、那覇地検は25日に「日中関係への考慮」などを理由に船長を釈放した。
