冒頭の動画は、「Peta Pixel」の記事で紹介されていた、1905年に撮影されたニューヨークの地下鉄だ。1904年10年27日に開通してから1年も経っていない。21世紀の同じ地下鉄と比べると、とても上品に見える。
リンクされている記事によれば、動画で最後に到着する駅はグランド・セントラル駅。なお、世界最初の地下鉄は、1863年1月10日に英国メトロポリタン鉄道のパディントン駅～ファリンドン駅間、約6kmとされる。1896年にハンガリーのブダペストで、初の電化された地下鉄が開業。1898年には米国のボストン、1900年にはフランスのパリでも開通した。なお、1863年は日本では文久3年で、薩英戦争が起こった年。1905年には、日露戦争後に結ばれたポーツマス条約に不満な人々による日比谷焼き打ち事件が起こっている。
