歌手のケイティ・ペリーと俳優のオーランド・ブルームが5月2日に開かれた、アメリカのファッションイベント「MET GALA 2016」に携帯ゲームの「たまごっち」を身につけて登場した。USA TODAYなどが報じた。
交際が噂されている2人が見つけたのは、おそろいの白い「たまごっち」。ペリーはプラダの黒いドレスのアクセサリーとして腰のベルトの下に、ブルームはタキシードの胸元に装着した。
1996年にバンダイから発売され、2年間で4000万個も世界で売れた大ヒット商品の「たまごっち」。今では見ることも少なくなったが、なぜセレブの2人が身につけたのだろうか。
今回のMET GALAの展覧会のテーマが「テクノロジーの時代におけるファッション」であることが関係ありそうだ。VOGUE豪州版によると、会場でペリーは「たまごっち」を見せながら「これが私のテクノロジーへの貢献なの。1996年から育てているのよ」とコメントしていたという。
