アメリカのトランプ大統領は1月25日、メキシコ国境沿いに壁を建設する大統領令に署名した。朝日新聞デジタルなどが報じた。壁は約3200キロの国境線沿いに建設。国境警備を担う職員を5000人増員する。

視察先の国土安全保障省で演説したトランプ大統領は、不法移民の流入が治安を脅かしているとして「アメリカは国境を取り戻す。多くの命と雇用を守る。麻薬の密売人など犯罪者が好き勝手にふるまう日はきょうで終わりだ」と訴えた

トランプ大統領は、これまで壁の建設を繰り返し主張。その費用はメキシコ政府が支払うとしているが、メキシコ側は拒否する姿勢だ。

■メキシコ大統領が訪米中止を検討

メキシコのペニャニエト大統領は、1月31日に訪米してトランプ氏と会談予定だ。「国境の壁」建設は、北米自由貿易協定(NAFTA)の見直しとともに主要な議題になる見通しだった。

しかし、AP通信によると、トランプ氏が壁を建設する大統領令に署名したことを受けて、ペニャニエト大統領は訪米中止を検討しているという。
