ホッキョクグマに会えるカナダの移動式ホテルがすごい(・(ェ)・)

カナダのマニトバ州北部にあるツンドラロッジは、内側を見る限り何の変哲もないホテルだが、ロッジにはタイヤがついていて、ホッキョクグマが住む奥地まで宿泊客を連れて行ってくれる。

カナダのマニトバ州北部にあるツンドラロッジは、内側を見る限り、何の変哲もないホテルだ。

ラウンジの床は、くすんだグレーのカーペット。並んでいるグリーンのソファは中古品みたいだし、椅子だって、小さな地方空港の待合室に置いてあったほうが似合いそうだ。

けれども、大半のホテルと違って、このロッジの値打ちは建物の外にある。

上の写真の通り、ツンドラロッジにはタイヤがついていて、ホッキョクグマが住む奥地まで宿泊客を連れて行ってくれる。気候変動のあおりを受けて今では絶滅の危機に瀕しているこのクマたちを、間近で見ることができる。

宿泊客は全員にはそれぞれ、窓が付いた個室が与えられる。また、外にあるビューイングエリアは床が網状になっているので、ホッキョクグマをさらに間近で見ることができる。

そのうえ「運がよければ」オーロラを見られる可能性もある、とサイトには書かれている。

ロッジを運営するNatural Habitat Adventures社のウェブサイトによると、ツアー料金は8日で7695ドルから。移動式ロッジでの3泊が含まれ、ホッキョクグマの生息地まで行くことができるという。

さらに2泊追加すれば、マニトバ州チャーチルという町も観光できる。ホッキョクグマの町として世界的に有名になったスポットだ。

ロッジは、観察シーズンが始まる毎年9月になると、ハドソン湾の岸辺の一区画に停められる。海氷が凍り出すと、ホッキョクグマが集まってくるのだという。

予約はすでにいっぱいで、次に予約が取れるのは2015年10月だ。
