日本代表MF香川真司の所属するマンチェスター・Uは22日、デイヴィッド・モイーズ監督がチームを離れることになったと発表した。
モイーズ監督は今シーズン、勇退したアレックス・ファーガソン監督の後任として、マンチェスター・Uの指揮官に就任。リーグ優勝を果たしたチームを引き継いだが、リーグ開幕5試合で2敗を喫するなど、序盤から波に乗れず。34試合を消化し、17勝6分11敗の勝ち点57で7位に沈んでいる。20日に行われたモイーズ監督の古巣であるエヴァートン戦では0－2で敗れ、来シーズンのCL出場権を失うことが確定していた。また、チャンピオンズリーグ、FAカップ、リーグカップも敗退している。
26年チームを率い、常勝チームへとクラブを成長させたファーガソン前監督の後任として、モイーズ監督は就任時に異例の長期契約となる6年契約を結んでいたが、1年を待たず退任となった。
クラブは、「彼が監督としてもたらしてくれた、ハードワーク、正直さ、誠実さに感謝する」と声明を発表。なお、暫定監督等の後任については現段階で明かされていない。
