アメリカの航空会社「ユナイテッド航空」と提携している地域航空会社「ユナイテッド・エクスプレス」の飛行機で1月2日、荷物係が貨物室に閉じ込められたままノースカロライナ州シャーロットを離陸し、ワシントンD.Cまで飛行するトラブルがあった。

この飛行機は「ユナイテッド・エクスプレス」系列で、アリゾナ州フェニックスに本部があるメサ航空のユナイテッド・エクスプレス6060便。2日にシャーロット・ダグラス空港を出発し1時間22分かけてワシントン・ダレス国際空港に到着した。FlightStats.comによると、機体は小型の地域用ジェット機エンブラエル175型だった。

飛行機の貨物室に閉じ込められたレジナルド・ギャスキンさん(45)は、ワシントンポストへのコメントを拒否したが、無事だったという。航空会社の職員は、ギャスキンさんが機内に閉じ込められた可能性があると飛行中に気が付いていた。

「当社が契約している陸上運送業者の従業員は、貨物室で無事だったことが判明しました 」また「貨物室は温度制御や加圧がされているため、従業員は安全です。本件についての経緯を引き続き調査いたします」とユナイテッド・エクスプレス社は声明で述べた。
