アメリカ・ロサンゼルスで3月21日（日本時間22日）、ワールドベースボールクラシック（WBC）準決勝で日本とアメリカが激突。ドジャースタジアムでは、通常は禁止されているラッパや太鼓などの「鳴り物」をWBCで解禁した。プロ野球で贔屓のチームを応援するような感覚で日本代表を鼓舞するシーンがあった。
WBC公式Twitterも「これがWBCの光景と音だ！」と、ラッパを演奏する日本応援団の動画を投稿している。
ロサンゼルス・タイムズは3月21日、「WBCのために（スタジオを保有する）ドジャースは、旗と鳴り物と小型の弦楽器を解禁した」と報じた。
シーズン中、ドジャースはスタジアム内での鳴り物使用を禁止していた。でも、WBCの応援を聞いて、よりよいアイデアが浮かんだよ。鳴り物をファンに渡すべきだ。
20日には、このスタジアムでプエルトリコ対オランダ戦があり、賑やかな応援でいっぱいになった。メジャーリーグでは、日本と違って鳴り物で応援するのは一般的ではないため、アメリカ人の中には顔をしかめる人もいたようだ。
■日本代表ファンからも賛否両論
今回の日本対アメリカ戦の中継を見た日本代表のファンからも賛否両論が出ている。「日本らしくていいけど違和感ある」と非難する声の一方で、「変な感じするけど不思議な安心感」と評価する声も。
