iPhoneなしでは生きていけないという人は少なくないだろう。しかし、そんな大事なパートナーを私たちは大切に扱っているだろうか？
もし、ここで紹介する11のことが習慣になっているのであれば、今日から変えた方がいい。大切なパートナーと長くつきあっていくために…。
一週間に1度は、電源をオフにしたほうがいい。常にオンの状態だとバッテリーが通常より早いスピードで消耗されてしまう。また、専門家によれば、スリープの状態でもバッテリーには負荷がかかる。アラームとして使用したり、1日に1度は電源をオフにしよう。
2. WiFiやBluetooth設定を1日中オンにしている
WiFiやBluetooth機能を終日オンにしておきながら使っていなければ、無駄に電力を消耗してしまう。WiFiやBluetoothが終日必要な状況はあまりない。両方ともオフにしておき、必要な時だけオンにした方がいい。
極端に高い、もしくは低い温度で使える仕様ではないiPhoneを、摂氏0度以下もしくは35度以上の屋外で使うのはおすすめできない。バッテリーを消耗したり、一時的に電源が落ちる原因になる。そういった環境にiPhoneを持って行く場合は、電源をオフにするか、少なくともポケットに入れて過酷な環境から守るようにしよう。
夜寝ている間にiPhoneを充電しておくのは便利だ。しかし、賛否両論あるものの、バッテリーが100%充電された後もiPhoneの充電を続けると、バッテリーに負荷がかかり、早く壊れる原因になるというのが多数派の意見だ。
「バッテリーはフル充電しない方が、正常に機能する。逆に100%になった後も充電を続けると、iPhoneの劣化を招く」とギズモードは2014年に紹介している。iPhoneは日中に充電し、100%になる前に充電をやめる、もしくはタイマーつき充電器でフル充電を避けるようにするとよい。
iPhoneに使われているリチウムイオンバッテリーは、充電が50〜80%のときが一番良い状態で働く、と充電関連のアクセサリーを作る会社「Farbe Technik」の創設者シェーン・ブロスキー氏はテック系ウェブサイト「デジタル・トレンド」に話している。アップル社によれば、0%になるとバッテリーは「重放電状態」になり、バッテリー中のリチウムイオンが充電状態を保てなくなるという。ブロスキー氏によれば、短時間の充電だとバッテリーは効率よく働き、長持ちするそうだ。
つまり我々が食事をするのと同じように考えたらいい。完全に空腹だと力がでないが、食べ過ぎても仕事にならない。腹八分目が大切なのだ。
純正の充電器は高いかもしれないが、お金を出す価値がある。非正規品はiPhoneにダメージを与える原因になり、場合によっては火事や爆発を起こす可能性が報告されている。アップルは「USB電源アダプタ引き取りプログラム」で非正規品を回収しており、2014年の8月からは、非正規品を持ち込んだ人は、正規品を買う際に割引を受けることもできる。
iPhoneは予想している以上に汚い。1平方インチあたりの細菌の量は、便座やペットの食器より多いという。アップルは「柔らかいきれいな布」でiPhoneを拭くことを勧めており、紫外線を使ってiPhoneをきれいにする製品まであるようだ。しかし忘れてはいけないのは、充電口をきれいにすることだ。ポケットやバッグに入れた時の汚れが充電口にたまると、うまく充電できなくなる。爪楊枝や針、イヤリングのフック部分などを使って充電口をきれいにしよう。
闇市場で人気のiPhoneは盗まれやすい。米国連邦通信委員会によれば、2013年にアメリカの主要都市で盗まれた品物のうち40%は携帯電話だった。iPhoneを片手に上の空で歩くのは危険だ。
iPhoneユーザーの半数がロック機能を使っていない、と2013年にアップルが報告している。パスコードを設定しない状態でiPhoneが盗まれれば、個人情報がすべて知られてしまう。最も簡単にプライバシーを保護する方法なので、パスコードを設定するようにしよう。
Uberやマップといったアプリを使うには、位置情報サービスをオンにしておく必要があるが、それ以外のアプリはオフでも使える。位置情報サービスが必要な時は、オンにするよう表示されるので、普段はオフにしていても問題ない。位置情報サービスは、設定→プライバシー→位置情報サービスでオフにすることができ、オフにしている方がバッテリーが長持ちする。
プッシュ通知は効果的に情報を送ってくれるが、プッシュ通知が送られてくるたびに、ディスプレイに表示されるのでバッテリーを消耗する。また、プッシュ通知が集中の妨げになるという研究も発表されている。設定→通知でプッシュ通知が必要なアプリだけを選択しよう。
