戦慄の写真が物語る、シリア・アレッポの荒廃と破壊(ビフォーアフター)

この街の荒廃と破壊が、痛ましいほどむき出しになっている。

アレッポの通りのビフォーアフター

シリア内戦前後のアレッポを見比べてみると、この街の荒廃と破壊が、痛ましいほどむき出しになっている。

シリア第2の都市で、かつて商業の中心地として活気のあったアレッポは、廃墟となってしまった。古くからの市場と歴史的建造物ウマイヤド・モスクは破壊しつくされ、11世紀に建てられたイスラム寺院の尖塔は倒壊した。

一方、活気があり繁栄している商業中心地アレッポの写真を見ると、2011年にこの国に降りかかる破壊の影もみられない。

内戦の代償が市民と歴史にもたらす恐ろしい現実が、写真から伝わってくる。

アレッポにあるウマイヤド・モスク

アレッポにある偉大なウマイヤド・モスクは、シリア内戦により廃墟と化した。

ウマイヤド・モスクは、歴史的旧市街の中心にある、アレッポを象徴する中世の建造物で、世界遺産にも登録されている。

900年の歴史をもつイスラム寺院の尖塔として名高いこのモスクは、地震、火事、独裁者、そして多くの改築を乗り越えてきた。

「中に入ると、この建物の建築様式の不思議な素朴さに気づくでしょう」と、旅行ガイドには書かれている。

尖塔はモスクの象徴だった。「両サイドは魅力的な木彫りとクーフィー体(最古のアラビア文字)、そしてはめ込まれた石細工で飾られている」と、ガイドには書かれている。

この建物はダマスカスにあるウマイヤド・モスクに次ぐ規模を誇っていた。

しかし、ダマスカスと違ってアレッポの建物は、爆撃により激しいダメージを受け、専門家たちは修復は不可能と懸念している。

遺跡を完全に修復するのは不可能だろう。

アレッポの市場

このビフォーアフターの写真は、6カ月の期間をはさんで、ともに2012年に撮られたものだ。

アレッポの市場がある地域は、1450年から商売をしている。

「商人から物を買うプレッシャーはほとんどなく、彼らの多くは、濃くて甘いお茶を飲みながら、にこやかに携帯で話している」と、ガイドには書かれている。

今となっては市場は暗く、熱気は失われ、商人の姿はどこにも見えない。

アレッポ城

アレッポ城の壁はボロボロに崩れ、古い石には苔が生えている。

アレッポの歴史的旧市街は世界遺産として30年も保護されてきた。

「もっとも好奇心をくすぐる中東の都市のひとつ」と、ロンリープラネットのシリア版には書かれている。

丘にそびえ立つ中世の要塞アレッポ城は地平線を占め、この都市を最も象徴するものだ。

しかし、シリア内戦が始まったわずか1年後に、アレッポ城は最悪な状態となった、ガーディアンは、「戦争の影響を現在進行形で物語っている」と報じている。

この動画は内戦が始まった後に撮影されたとみられ、悲惨な状況のアレッポ城を映している。

2015年、爆撃がこの地を直撃したと言われており、外壁は完全に崩壊した。

ガイドブックには「ツアーバスが次から次へとやってきて正面入り口に人が群がっている」とあるが、今ではアレッポ城が賑わった観光名所だったことを想像するのも難しい。

アレッポの住宅街

がれきや破片はかつて賑やかだった通りに横たわり、建物はほとんど崩壊しているようだ。

最近の試算によると、10万人以上の市民がアレッポにとどまっている。
