イギリス各地で赤や緑に輝く大規模なオーロラが発生した。2月27日に、スコットランドやイングランド北部だけでなく、ウェールズ南部やエセックス州などでも観測されたとハフィントンポスト・イギリス版が報じている。
オーロラは、通常はアラスカやアイスランドなど北極圏を中心に発生。イギリスなど比較的低緯度で観測されるのは珍しい。太陽で起きた爆発現象「太陽フレア」が活発化したことで、観測可能な地域が南に広がったようだ。The TIMESによると、イギリス国内でこれほど大規模なオーロラが観測できたのは12年ぶりだという。
