イラクの首都バグダッドで7月3日、自爆テロとみられる爆発が2カ所であり、合計の死者が少なくとも131人に上り、約200人が負傷した。現地の病院や警察が明らかにしたとアルジャジーラが報じた。過激派組織「イスラム国」（IS）が犯行声明を出している。
事件が起きた場所の一つは商業地区カラダの繁華街で、イスラム教の断食月「ラマダン」の終わりを祝う祭日を前に、大勢の買い物客でにぎわっていた。AFP通信によると、ISは犯行声明の中で、自爆攻撃はイラク人1人が車を使って実行したもので、同組織の「現在進行中の自衛のための作戦」の一環だと主張している。バグダッドでの一度の攻撃による死者数としては、2016年で最悪の規模となったという。
イラクでISは、2年以上にわたって支配を続けていたファルージャを6月26日、政府軍に奪還されるなど劣勢に立たされた。NHKニュースによると、反転攻勢を狙うISは、イスラム教徒の信仰心が高まるラマダンにあわせて各地でテロを起こすよう呼びかけており、トルコのイスタンブール国際空港や、バングラデシュの首都ダッカなどで大規模なテロ事件が相次いでいる。
