黒人女性、機動隊の前に静かに立ちふさがる【黒人射殺の抗議デモ】

ある女性が機動隊に対峙する姿が、「黒人の命も大切だ」運動の象徴的なシーンとしてネット上で拡散している。

アメリカ・ルイジアナ州バトンルージュで7月5日、黒人男性アルトン・スターリングさん(37)が白人の警官2人に取り押さえられて射殺された事件で、地元での抗議デモが続いている。9日、ある女性が機動隊に対峙する姿が、「黒人の命も大切だ(Black Lives Matter)」運動の象徴的なシーンとしてネット上で拡散している。

コンビニの外で警官に射殺されたアルトン・スターリングさんの死をうけて、9日にバトンルージュ警察署前で行われた抗議デモでは、少なくとも3人のジャーナリストを含む100人以上が逮捕された。「黒人の命も大切だ」の著名な活動家テセレイ・マックケッソンさんも逮捕された。

上の画像は、ロイターの写真家ジョナサン・バックマンが撮影した。この女性は、地域の幹線道路からの立ち退きを拒否して逮捕された。1989年6月4日に中国・北京で天安門事件が発生した時、名前もわからない「戦車の前に立ちふさがる男」を撮影した時と同じように、ロイターもAP通信もこの女性の身元を確認できなかったが、この女性はニューヨーク州ブルックリン在住の看護師レシア・エヴァンスさん(28)と判明した。

ニューヨーク・デイリー・ニュースのショーン・キング記者によると、エヴァンスさんは拘束されが、10日夜、釈放されたという。

私はただみなさんに知っておいてほしいと思っただけです。みなさんの善意と愛に感謝しますが、これは神の業なのです。私は"器"として創造された人間です! 全知全能の神に栄光あれ! 無事に生きていることにホッとしています。そして私が目にする限り、けが人がいなかったことにも。

ロイターの写真家バックマンは雑誌「ジ・アトランティック」に、「暴動に備えるため防護服に身を包んだ警察が、抗議デモの参加者を空港の道路から脇に立ち退かせていましたが、その時、あの女性が静かに足を下ろして立ち退きを拒否するのを見ました」と語った。彼は、バトンルージュのデモは大部分が平和的に行われ、女性の行為はまさに平和的だったという。

それは一瞬の出来事でした。彼女は動くつもりがなく、抵抗しているように見えました。その瞬間、彼女はこんな風に言っているように思えました。「あなたはこちらに来て私を逮捕しなければならないでしょう」と。私はここで場所をとって撮影するといいと思いました。ドレスを着た彼女がいて、暴動に備えて防護服で完全装備した2人の警官がいた絶好のポジションだったからです。

暴力的ではありませんでした。彼女は何も言いませんでした。彼女は抵抗せず、警官は彼女を無理やり引きずるようなことはしませんでした。

バトンルージュでのスターリングさんの死と、ミネソタ州セントポールでフィランド・カスティールさんが射殺された事件を受け、週末には全米の多くの都市で抗議デモがあった。ツインシティーでは抗議デモ参加者が高速道路I-94を封鎖し、石やボトル、花火を警官に向かって投げ、数百人が逮捕された。警察は、催涙ガスとゴム弾で対応した。ダラス市では、抗議デモの警戒にあたっていた警官5人が射殺された。

バラク・オバマ大統領は10日、警官に対する暴力は「黒人の命も大切だ」運動と、刑事裁判制度の公平性を求める声にはマイナスになると警告した

「私は、あらゆる刑事裁判での人種差別を懸念する人に対して、誠実で、真摯に、敬意を払う姿勢を保つことが、本当の変革をもたらすためにアメリカ社会を動かす助けになる、と言いたいのです」と、オバマ大統領は語った。

黒人警官たちは最近立て続けに起こった警察の暴力は、コインの裏表のようで、終わりの見えない苦しみだと捉えている。

「警官の暴力、そして警官に対する暴力の両方で、私の心は胸がえぐられるように痛んでいます」と、退官したダラス警察のプレストン・ギルストラップさんは、ハフポストUS版に話した。「取り締まった警官たちは、抗議する人を保護し、彼らの不満の表明と表現の自由が確実にされるようにその場にいたのです」
