ブラックベリー、身売り断念 ソーステン・ハインズCEOは退任

カナダのスマートフォンメーカーで、かつてスマートフォンの巨人だったブラックベリーが身売りをめぐる混乱の末、ソーステン・ハインズCEO(最高経営責任者)が退任する。ハフィントンポストUK版が伝えた。

カナダのスマートフォンメーカーで、かつてスマートフォンの巨人だったブラックベリーが身売りをめぐる混乱の末、ソーステン・ハインズCEO(最高経営責任者)が退任する。ハフィントンポストUK版が伝えた。

ブラックベリー社によると、ハインズ氏の退任に伴って、ソフトウェア企業のサイベース社元CEOジョン・チェン氏が暫定CEOが就任する。チェン氏は、ブラックベリー社の取締役にも就任する予定。

かつてCEOとして苦戦していたサイベース社を好転させたチェン氏の経験がモバイル業界でどう生かされるかが、かつては消費者を牽引し、ビジネス界のリーダー的存在だったブラックベリー社の将来を占う上で重要となる。

また、ブラックベリー社は、同社の主要株主であるカナダのフェアファックス・ファイナンシャル・ホールディングスと他の投資家による企業連合に47億ドル(約4650億円)で身売りする計画を中止し、新たに10億ドル(約990億円)の資金調達を行うことを発表した。

ブラックベリーは無料アンドロイドOSのグーグル、高品質のiPhoneで高収益を上げるアップル、ウィンドウズフォンで再起したマイクロソフトが支配するスマートフォン市場で戦略の転換を図ろうと苦戦してきた。

すでに下落していた株価は、今回の発表により時間外取引の段階で18.5%以上下落している。
