2014年にブラジルで開催されるFIFAワールドカップの本会場となるスタジアムの建設現場で11月27日午後、クレーンが倒壊する事故が起きた。作業員の男性2人が巻き込まれて死亡したという。NHKニュースなどが報じた。
来年のサッカーワールドカップブラジル大会の会場となるスタジアムの建設現場で、作業用のクレーンが倒れる事故があり、作業員２人が死亡しました。
事故が起きたのはブラジル最大の都市、サンパウロで建設されているスタジアムで、２７日、突然、作業用のクレーンがスタジアムにもたれかかるように倒れました。

クレーンの倒壊により、スタジアムの外壁や電光掲示板などが破損したという。
地元メディアによると、競技場の屋根を取り付ける作業中に、クレーンの土台の一部が地面に沈み込んでバランスを崩し、つり上げていた重さ約４２０トンの鉄骨が落下。直撃を受けた外壁や、世界最大級の電光掲示板の一部が破損した。

ブラジルW杯の会場となるスタジアムの建設はかねてより準備の遅れが指摘されていた。10月にも、FIFA(国際サッカー連盟）が引き渡し期限内となる2015年1月5日までに工事を終えるように求めていた。
今回の事故をうけて、FIFAはウェブサイトで「犠牲者と家族に、心から哀悼の意を表する」と声明を発表。事故の原因については、地元当局の調査結果を待つとした。
アルゼンチン在住の藤坂ガルシア千鶴さんによれば、ワールドカップ会場となるスタジアムの建築現場で死亡事故が起こるのは3度目だという。
