イギリスの伝説的ロックバンド「クイーン」ギタリストのブライアン・メイは6月8日、アメリカ大統領選で共和党候補指名を確実にしたドナルド・トランプ氏が、クイーンの楽曲をテレビ番組で使用したことについて、楽曲の使用阻止に向けて動いていることをCNNなどが伝えた。

AFPによると、トランプ氏は7日のテレビ番組出演の際にクイーンのヒット曲「伝説のチャンピオン(We Are The Champions)」を使用した。

これを受けてメイは公式サイトで「(苦情が)雪崩のように殺到している」とした上で、「楽曲の使用許可は、依頼もなかったし承認もしていない。これから先、継続して使用されないようにするため、どんな措置を取れるか助言を受けている」とコメントした。また、「私たちの音楽は、私たち自身の夢と思想信条を表現するものであり、かつそれを聴いて楽しむ全ての人のためのものだ」と強いメッセージを述べた。

■トランプ氏に楽曲の使用中止求める声、他のアーティストからも

2月にはイギリスの歌手アデルのマネージメントチームも、トランプ氏が今後一切彼女の楽曲を使わないように求めている。また、エアロスミスのスティーブン・タイラーも、曲の使用を中止するよう弁護士を通して文書で求めた
