テキサス州ダラスにあるマーケティング広告関連企業「ゴー・エイプ・マーケティング」のシェリル・リオスCEOは、Facebookに「ヒラリー・クリントン氏が大統領になったら、私はカナダに移住する」と投稿した

CBSの系列テレビ局「KTVT」によると、リオス氏は「私たち女性のホルモンからして、女性が戦争を始めることはできません」と書き込んだという。「私は自分で事業を営んでいます。愛着があるし、経営も順調です。ですが、大統領となると話は別です。その役割は力強い、善良で高潔な男性に任されるべきなのです」

KTVTによると、リオス氏は「権利の平等」を支持していると発言している。しかし、「なぜ女性が大統領になるべきでないか、聖書にしっかりと論拠が示されています」と強く主張している。ただし、リオス氏は、自身の考えの根拠となる、具体的な聖書の記述には触れていない。

ソーシャルメディア上ではリオス氏のコメントへの批判が巻き起こった。4月7日、リオス氏は自らの信条を擁護するべくツイートした

「この偉大な国家において、私たちは自分の意見を持つことを許されています。私の意見はあなたには同意できないものかもしれないし、実際にそうなのでしょう。私は考えの古い人間で、キリスト教徒で、自分の発言したことに信念を持っています」

リオス氏は、「女性が虐待を受けてはならないと考えている」。そして、「『女性は愚かで、弁護士、医師にはなれず、また事業を成功させることはできない』とは考えてはいない。単に女性が一国の首長になるべきではないというだけだ」と付け加えた。

「そういうことですから、女性を差別しているわけではありません。不快な中傷は止めてください」と彼女は綴った。
