ウクライナ南部のクリミア半島にあるクリミア自治共和国の議会は2月27日、同自治共和国の地位について問う住民投票の実施を決めた。ロシア系住民が多数派を占め、大統領を解任されたヤヌコビッチ氏への支持が強いクリミア自治共和国が、新欧州派の暫定政権が発足したウクライナから離脱する恐れが一層強まっている。朝日新聞デジタルは、地元の報道として次のように伝えている。
事実上、ウクライナとロシアのどちらに帰属するのかを問う内容になるとみられる。住民投票は大統領選にあわせて5月25日に実施することも決まった。（中略）議会は武装集団が占拠した状態で、住民投票実施について採決したという。

クリミア自治共和国では27日、議会や行政府の建物が武装集団に占拠され、ロシア国旗が掲げられた。武装集団は、クリミアのロシアへの帰属の是非を問う住民投票を実施するよう要求していた。住民投票の実施は、これを受けたものだ。
クリミア自治共和国の首都シンフェロポリの空港も28日未明、武装集団に一時占拠された。現地では緊張が高まっている。
