イギリスの最も古いタブロイド紙、デイリーメールが11月17日に公開した、漫画家スタンリー・マッカートリーの漫画は、ヨーロッパに押し寄せる難民をネズミに例えている。

ナチスに支配された1930~40年代のヨーロッパでは、ユダヤ人をネズミに例え、ドイツから追い出せと主張したプロパガンダ色の強い漫画が発表された。MACことスタンリー・マッカートリーは、この手法に強く影響されたようだ。

MACの漫画では、男性がマットを運んでいる。おそらくイスラム教のお祈りに使うものだろう。その後ろを、ヒジャブを着た女性が「開放された国境」と書かれた標識の前を歩いている。標識には「移動の自由」「ヨーロッパへようこそ」とも書かれている。

漫画に描かれた別の男は、背中に担いだライフルの銃口を空に向けている。不気味に黒塗りされているが、無精ひげをはやしていて、アフガニスタンのムジャヒディン(ソ連支配に抵抗したイスラム教徒の戦士)と同じパシュトゥン帽をかぶっている。

そしてその移民たちの足元をネズミが走っている。

この漫画が公開されたあと、インターネット上では、1939年にウィーンの新聞「Das Kleine Blatt」が掲載した漫画と似ていることを指摘する声が相次いだ。

この漫画は、ネズミの群れがドイツの戸口から掃き出され、「民主的な」国への入国も封じられたことを喜んでいる。「民主的な国」とは、ドイツのユダヤ人政策に批判的な国のことだ。

ヨーロッパには2015年だけで75万人にのぼる難民が押し寄せているが、多くは中東でのテロから逃れてきた人々だ。過激な宗教思想を持つ人々が、難民を装って入国しているのではないかという、誇張された懸念も増幅している。
