イギリスのデビッド・キャメロン首相がテリーザ・メイ氏に首相を引き継ぐことを発表し、ダウニング街10番地の首相官邸へ戻る途中、楽しげな、聞きようによっては悲しげな小歌を歌っているのをマイクに拾われた。

キャメロン首相はテレビカメラから歩いて遠ざかりながら”ドゥードゥードゥードゥー”とハミングしていた。最後、官邸のドアを閉める際には「よし!」と声を発している。

この鼻歌が何の曲なのか、さまざまな見方がある。「くまのプーさん」でないか、あるいはアメリカのドラマ「The West Wing」(「ザ・ホワイトハウス」)の主題歌ではないか、といった分析もある

国のリーダーとして過ごした6年間を終えるキャメロン首相の鼻歌は、考え得る限りで最もイギリス人らしい去り方かもしれない。

ダウニング街10番地の外で発表した声明で、キャメロン首相はメイ内相が彼の後を引き継ぐことを「うれしく思う」と語った。

「彼女は強く、有能で、今後この国が必要とする以上のリーダーシップを発揮する能力があるでしょう。私は彼女を全面的に支援します」と、キャメロン首相は語った。

「状況に変化がありましたから、私たちがこれ以上新首相への移行期間を作る必要ありません。私は、最後の閣僚会議で議長を務めるつもりです」

「13日には下院の首相の質問時間に出席します。その後、宮殿へ行き辞任を申し出ます。なので13日夜までには私の背後の建物には新しい首相がいることでしょう」

キャメロン首相は5月10日、バッキンガム宮殿で開かれたレセプションで、エリザベス女王にナイジェリアやアフガニスタンについて「とてつもなく腐敗した国」と発言したのをマイクに拾われたことがある。
