2016年のアメリカ大統領選挙への立候補を表明し、世論調査で野党・共和党の支持率トップを走るドナルド・トランプ氏が、「イスラム教徒の全面入国禁止」を訴えた。

数々の毒舌や暴言が、高い支持率の原動力になってきたトランプ氏だが、今回の発言には波紋が広がっている。

トランプ氏は12月7日に自身のウェブサイトで声明を発表した。全文は以下の通り。

ドナルド・トランプは、我が国が実情を把握できるまで、包括的で完全なイスラム教徒のアメリカ入国禁止を要求する。ピュー・リサーチセンターによると、イスラム教徒の相当数に、アメリカ人への憎悪(ヘイト)が広がっている。最近では、セキュリティー・ポリシー・センターの世論調査で「25%の人々が、アメリカ人への攻撃は世界的なジハード(イスラム教の「聖戦」)の一環として容認される」という意見に同意し、51%は「アメリカ国内のイスラム教徒は、シャリア(「イスラム法」:預言者ムハンマドの言葉とコーランを原典とする法規)によって支配されるべきだ」と考えている。シャリアは、改宗を拒む者を殺害する暴虐を正当化しており、斬首やさらに信じられない行動で、アメリカ人、特に女性への脅威となっている。

こうした調査結果を見なくても、イスラム教徒のヘイトが理解を超えていることは誰の目にも明らかだ。ヘイトがどこから来て、なぜ我々は決断しないといけないのか。我々が決断し、この問題と危険を理解できるまで、過激思想のみを信じ、良識も人命尊重の意識もかけらもない人々の恐ろしい攻撃で、我が国を犠牲にすることはできない。もし私が大統領選で当選したら、アメリカを再び偉大な国にする。

ホワイトハウスのアーネスト報道官は8日、攻撃的で有害な発言だとトランプ氏を批判。「歴史の汚点」レベルだと酷評した。世論調査で支持率トップのヒラリー・クリントン氏ら民主党関係者も、こぞって批判している。

これは非難されるべきだ。偏見に満ちていて、分断と対立を促す。あなたは分かっていない。これではアメリカはもっと危険になる。

すべての謎が解けた。彼は大統領選にファシスト扇動家として出ている。

共和党の他の候補者も、一様に「間違っている」「支持できない」と批判した。ABCは、アイオワ州でテッド・クルーズ上院議員がトランプ氏を上回ったとする一部調査結果が出たことで「トランプ氏は再び注目を浴びようと思ったのだろう」とするカーリー・フィオリナ氏のコメントを伝えている。

一方のトランプ氏は、「トランプ氏支持者の68%が、もし共和党の正式候補に選ばれず無所属で立候補したとしても、トランプ氏に投票する」としたUSA Today紙の調査を自身のサイトに掲載。一歩も引く構えを見せていない。
