［カトマンズ／ニューデリー ２７日 ロイター］ - ネパールで２５日に発生したマグニチュード（Ｍ）７．９の大地震で同国内務省は２７日、死者が３７２６人になったと明らかにした。政府当局者の間では、死者が５０００人に達するとの見方もある。同国の震災規模としては８１年ぶりの大きさ。
日本の国内メディアによると、世界最高峰エベレストで雪崩に巻き込まれ、５０代の日本人男性１人が死亡、日本人女性１人が負傷したという。
現地では強い余震が続いており、首都のカトマンズでは倒壊・半壊した家屋から避難した家族らが道路にマットを敷いたり、雨よけのテントを立てるなどして不安な夜を過ごした。市内の病院が満杯のため屋外で横たわる病人や負傷者も多く、カトマンズ医療大学では野外に手術用テントも設置された。
営業している数少ない商店も品物はほとんどなく、薬局では市民らが商品を競い合って買う姿も見られた。また給水用トラックに長い行列ができていた。
大規模な雪崩で日本人１人を含む１７人が死亡したエベレストでは、外国人など数百人の登山者がなお下山できずにいる。
都市部から離れた地域では救助隊が行きつけない場所もあるほか、がれきの下になお遺体が埋まっているとみられることから、死者数は今後さらに増加するとみられている。
一方、海外からの救援物資や救助隊も到着しつつある。インドは衣料品や救助チームを空輸したほか、中国は６０人態勢の緊急救助チームを派遣。また、パキスタンは医療設備などを備えた軍機４機を派遣した。ただ、カトマンズの主要空港が２７日も余震の影響で繰り返し閉鎖され、一部の救援機が着陸できないなど、現地で活動を始めた国際救助隊は少数にとどまっている。
ネパールでは１９３４年に８５００人の犠牲者を出した大地震が発生しており、今回はそれに次ぐ規模となっている。
ネパール地震、100万人近い子供が「深刻な被害」＝ユニセフ
［ムンバイ ２７日 ロイター］ - 国連児童基金（ユニセフ）は２７日、３２００人以上の死者を出したネパール大地震により深刻な被害を受けている子供たちが１００万人近くいると発表した。
ユニセフによれば、屋外テントや屋根のない場所で仮眠をとっている人が数十万人にのぼることから、現地の救援隊は、水を媒介とする伝染病や感染症の発生を警戒している。
ユニセフのクリストファー・タイディ広報官は「現時点でわかっているだけで、深刻な被害にあった子供たちが１００万人近くいる。現時点で最大の懸念事項は子供たちがきれいな水やトイレを利用できるかどうかだ」と電話取材に答えた。
