米歌手エルビス・プレスリーが死亡する数時間前まで運転していた愛車、1973年型「スタッツ・ブラックホークIII」が、米ノースカロライナ州で公開された。

同車は黒塗りの車体で、車内は赤い革張りのインテリア。プレスリーの死後、米テネシー州メンフィスにある旧邸宅「グレースランド」で数十年もほぼ眠っている状態だったが、12週間かけて再び動くように改装作業が行われ、ノースカロライナ州シャーロットで開催されたオートショーでお披露目された。今後はプレスリー所有の他の車20台以上とともに、グレースランドのミュージアムに展示されるという。

プレスリーは生涯で200台以上の車を所有。大抵は半年ほどで乗り換えたりしていたが、同ミュージアムのディレクターによると、このスタッツ・ブラックホークIIIはお気に入りの1台だったという。

プレスリーは1977年8月16日深夜、歯医者の予約から同車で帰宅したところをファンが写真で撮影していた。プレスリーは同日、自宅で死亡しているのが発見された。[ウィンストンセーラム(米ノースカロライナ州) 5日 ロイター]
