『ハフィントン・ポスト』が独自に入手した情報によると、今年6月に結婚した（日本語版記事）ばかりのジョージ・ルーカス監督と、妻であるメロディ・ホブソン氏との間に8月9日（米国時間）、女児が誕生した。
女児は代理母によって生まれ、エベレストちゃんと名付けられた。69歳のルーカス監督と44歳のホブソン氏にとって初めての実子となるが、ひとりっ子ではない。エベレストちゃんは、ルーカス監督の養子である32歳のアマンダ、25歳のケイティ、20歳のジェットの妹になる。
ホブソン氏は、米イリノイ州シカゴに拠点を置く投資信託会社Ariel Investments社の社長を務めている。また、ドリームワークス・アニメーション社（スピルバーグ監督らが1994年に創業したアニメ制作会社）の会長を務めているほか、CBS Newsで金融関連の解説を行っていることでも有名だ。
ルーカス監督は2012年10月に、ルーカスフィルム社を40億500万ドルでウォルト・ディズニー社に売却している。『スターウォーズ』シリーズは、『スタートレック』等を監督したJ・J・エイブラムス監督が引き継ぐことになっており、来年はじめから撮影が始まる予定だ。
