イギリス・マンチェスターのコンサート会場で起きた爆発事件で、地元の警察当局は5月23日、「実行犯は1人ですでに死亡した」などと発表した。一方、死者は22人、けが人は59人になったことも明らかにした。
マンチェスターの警察当局の公式Twitterが、トップを務めるイアン・ホプキンス氏の声明として発表。ホプキンス氏は声明の中で、「実行犯は男1人。彼が単独で計画したのか、それとも組織の1人として実行したのかを捜査するのが優先事項」と明かした。実行犯は会場で死亡したという。
また、ホプキンス氏は爆発物について、「実行犯は即席でつくった装置を持ち込んでいた」と述べた。
BBCニュースによると、死亡した人の中には子どもも含まれているという。爆発事件は、マンチェスター中心部にある屋内競技場「マンチェスター・アリーナ」で5月22日夜、起きた。この競技場では当時、アメリカの人気歌手アリアナ・グランデさんのコンサートが開かれており、コンサートが終わった直後、爆発が2度起きたとされる。
