複数のトレーダーと同時にコミュニケーションできるチャットルームが、不正操作の舞台になっていると当局が判断しているためだという。

大手金融機関が問題視しているのは、複数のディーラーが同時に意思疎通を行うことが可能なチャットルームで、トレーダーと顧客、トレーダー同士などの双方向のコミュニケーションについては、禁止の検討対象には上がっていない。

米紙ウォールストリート・ジャーナル(WSJ)によると、世界の規制当局が現在行っている外為指標レートの不正操作疑惑をめぐる調査では、チャットルームの使用が焦点となっている。問題となっているチャットルームは「カルテル」などの名称を持ち、大手行の多数のトレーダーが指標為替レートを不正に操作した疑いが持たれている。

ロンドン時間で午後4時に決定される外為指標レート「WM/ロイター」をめぐる疑惑は6月に浮上、最近になって英米、スイスの当局が調査していることを相次いで認めるなど、影響が広がっている。

ただ関係筋の1人は、チャットルームの使用禁止は外為指標レートの不正疑惑以前から検討されていたと述べ、「LIBOR(ロンドン銀行間取引金利)の頃まで遡る」と明らかにした。

JPモルガン、シティ、クレディ・スイス、トムソン・ロイターはすべてコメントを差し控えた。ブルームバーグのコメントを得られていない。
