アメリカの人気俳優ジョージ・クルーニーさんの報道をしたイランの日刊紙が、司法当局によって発行禁止処分を受けた。BBCによると、この新聞はクルーニーさんが「私はシャルリー」と発言し、イスラム過激派の襲撃を受けた週刊紙「シャルリー・エブド」への連帯を表明したことを報じていたという。
発行禁止となった新聞は、ペルシャ語で「今日の人々」を意味する「マルドメ・エムルーズ」。同紙は1月13日付紙面の１面トップで、11日にゴールデングローブ賞の授賞式に出席したクルーニーさんの写真を大きく掲載。「クルーニー『私はシャルリー』」という見出しで、「我々はおびえて歩いたりしない」とパリの大行進に触れたスピーチの内容を報じていた。
マルドメ・エムルーズ紙の編集幹部、アフマド・サッターリ氏は国営イラン通信に対して「文化とメディアを担当する法廷が、見出しと写真を侮辱的として発禁措置を科した」と語った。
朝日新聞デジタルによると、イラン政府は襲撃事件を批判する一方で、預言者ムハンマドの風刺画を掲載した最新号を「世界中のイスラム教徒の感情を逆なでする」「表現の自由の誤用は看過しがたい」と非難。マルドメ・エムルーズ紙の紙面についても、保守派の国会議員やメディアから批判が相次いでいたという。
