7月9日のFIFAワールドカップ準決勝で、ブラジルがドイツに1-7と歴史的な大敗を喫したその日、ハフィントンポストのブラジル版とドイツ版はトップ記事で対照的な伝え方をしている。
ブラジル版は、（英語のスラングで）「ボロ負け」というタイトルをつけ、「悪夢：ドイツが準決勝で開催国ブラジルを粉砕」（ポルトガル語で）「ホラーだ」（ドイツ語で）「最高」などと伝えている。
また、ブラジル版編集部のスタッフはハフポスト各国版編集部宛に「念のため、皆さん私たちのことを心配していたら…私たちは生きていくぞ！」というメッセージを送っている。
一方、ドイツ版は喜びを爆発させているかと思いきや「ひとつのチーム、ひとつの国、ひとつの夢」というタイトルで、「ドイツはブラジルに歴史的な勝利を収めたが、ヨアヒム・レーヴ監督は謙虚でいるように、と選手に指示した」と、控え目に伝えている。
