フィギュアスケートのオータム・クラシック最終日は10月15日、カナダで行われ、男子はショートプログラム（SP）で1位だった羽生結弦（20）がフリーでもトップを守り、合計271.08点で優勝した。この大会が今季初戦となった羽生、上々のスタートだ。
この日、陰陽師・安倍晴明を演じる「SEIMEI」でフリーを演技。4回転のジャンプを3回組み込んだプログラムに挑んだ。
冒頭の4回転サルコウをきれいに決め、2回目のジャンプ・4回転トーループで惜しくも手をつくも、まずまずの出だし。その次の3回転フリップで持ち直した。
演技後半では4回転トーループを失敗するも、続くトリプルアクセル−2回転トーループや、3回転ループ−1回転ループ−3回転サルコウなどの連続技をきっちり決めた。
結果、フリーの得点は184.05。ショートの93.14との合計で277.19となり、圧勝した。2位はナム・ニュエン（カナダ）で241.10。3位に201.70でショーン・ラビット（アメリカ）が続いた。
「ワイド!スクランブル」（テレビ朝日）によると、羽生は演技の後、「4回転3つという構成で、しっかり決められていないのが、ちょっと悔しい」とコメント。成功したジャンプなどをふまえ、「収穫にもなり、課題も見つかった試合かなと思います。スケート・カナダに向けていろいろたくさんのことを調整していかなければいけないなと、まずは思っています」と謙虚に語った。
