同局で人道危機を伝えてきた外交問題特派員ジョナサン・ラグマンがヘリコプターに同乗した。

「ヘリコプターでの危険な任務で、十分なものではありませんでした」とラグマンは動画で述べている。「懸念されるのは、もっと救援機を出して人々をこの山から救い出さない限り、数百人、ひょっとしたら数千人の命が失われかねないことです」

ヘリコプターは救援物資を落とした後5分ほど着陸し、ラグマンの表現によれば「我先に搭乗を争う難民」に、乗るよう促した。

「難民たちはドアに設置した機関銃の側を通り抜けて身体を押し込むように搭乗しようとしました」ラグマンは、ニュースサイト「Mashable」の取材に対して自らの体験をこう述べた。「扉を通り抜けようとして、互いの身体に乗っかるようになりながら叫んでいました」
