歌手の宇多田ヒカルさん（32）が7月3日、第1子となる男児を出産したことを自身の公式サイトで発表した。
宇多田さんは「ファンのみんなにお知らせ」と題して次の通り記した。

みんなにお知らせがあります。
えー、この度、
うちに赤ちゃんが産まれました！
良くお乳を飲んで良く寝るとっても穏やかな男の子です。
支えてくれたたくさんの人、寄り添ってくれた人、父と母に改めて、ありがとうと言いたいです。

2010年末から「人間活動」に専念するとして無期限活動休止に入っている宇多田さんだが、サイトではさらに「妊娠中、新しいアルバムを制作してました」とも明かした。「完成までまだちょっと時間がかかりそうだけど、続きに取り掛かるのが楽しみで、早くみんなに届けたいと思ってます。もう少し待っててね！」とメッセージを送った。
宇多田さんは2002年4月に卵巣腫瘍の一部摘出手術を受けた。2002年9月に映画監督の紀里谷和明さんと結婚したが、2007年に離婚。2014年2月に8歳年下のイタリア人一般男性と再婚し、同5月にイタリアで挙式をあげた。
