世界貿易センタービルの跡地での式典中に暑さで立ちくらみを起こした模様だ。途中で式典を退出し、娘のチェルシーさんのニューヨーク市内の自宅で休息したという。クリントン氏の症状について、主治医のリサ・バードック博士は以下のように声明を出した。
クリントン氏は、アレルギーで咳込んでいました。咳が続いたことを受けて、金曜日に肺炎と診断されました。抗生物質を投与されて、スケジュールを変更して休むようにアドバイスを受けていました。今朝の追悼式典では暑さによる脱水症状となりました。私はたった今、診察しましたが水分を補給したことで、きちんと回復しました。
Twitterには、会場から移動して自動車を待つクリントン氏がよろめく動画や、胸を押さえて苦しそうに歩く写真が投稿されている。
クリントン氏は国務長官を務めていた2012年に、頭部に血栓が見つかって入院したことがある。かねてから健康不安説もくすぶっており、大統領選の共和党候補であるトランプ氏が今後、攻撃材料とする可能性もありそうだ。
