大リーグ、マーリンズのイチロー(41)が10月4日、フィラデルフィアで行われたフィリーズ戦の八回に初めてピッチャーとして登板した。時事ドットコムなどが報じた。

イチローは、4番手として1回18球を投げ、2安打1失点だった。この日はレギュラーシーズンの最終戦。マーリンズは2-7で敗れ、同選手はチームの今季を締めくくる投手となった。

イチローは愛知・愛工大名電高で、投手として甲子園大会に出場。プロ野球のオリックス時代には、1996年のオールスター戦でパ・リーグの投手を務めたことがある。

スポニチによると、イチローにとってメジャーでの登板はかねてからの念願でもあったといい、「通常あり得ない。その事実に対しては思い出として残しますが、2回目は要らないです」と話した

イチローは今シーズン、打率.229、ホームラン1本、21打点で、いずれもメジャーに移籍してから自己最低の成績に終わった
