［ニューデリー １６日 ロイター］ -インド総選挙（下院議会、定数５４５）の開票が１６日に始まり、ナレンドラ・モディ氏の最大野党・インド人民党（ＢＪＰ）が圧勝することになった。
大統領が指名する２議席を除く５４３議席の過半数に当たる２７２議席以上をＢＪＰが単独で獲得した。グジャラート州首相のモディ氏（６３）は次期首相に就任する見通し。
開票速報によると、ＢＪＰは２８６議席を、ＢＪＰを中心とする野党連合では３４０議席を獲得した。
一方、これまで２期にわたり政権を率いてきた国民会議派は４４議席で過去最悪の結果に終わるとみられている。与党連合でも５７議席にとどまっている。
シン首相は、モディ氏とＢＪＰの勝利を賞賛。モディ氏は「インドの勝利だ」とコメントした。
モディ氏率いるＢＪＰは、１９８４年のインディラ・ガンジー首相（当時）暗殺後に息子のラジブ氏が国民会議派を大勝に導いて以来の大差で勝利することになる。
ＳＢＩファンズ・マネジメントの最高投資責任者（ＣＩＯ）のナブニート・ムノット氏は「モディ氏は規模は小さくても実力のある内閣を持つことが可能になる、つまり政府の意思決定力が大幅に増すということだ。モディ氏はこれまで、小さい政府と統治の強化を訴えてきており、それが実現しそうだ」と述べた。
モディ氏はこれまで、雇用の創出と効率的でクリーンな政府を公約しており、これが多くの国民の支持を得た。また、首相就任の際は経済成長の押し上げに向け停滞する電力や道路、鉄道プロジェクトへの投資の再開を目指すと表明している。
