噂では、AppleはiPhoneのヘッドフォンジャックをなくして、すばらしきワイヤレスのみのインタフェイスにするという。でも本当に、すばらしいのか?

でもない。

まず、例によってAppleはこの件について何も言ってないし、肯定も否定もしていないから、単なる噂だ。しかしそれでも、こんな、人を惑わせる奇妙な見出しが、登場している:

次のiPhoneのために新しいヘッドフォンとハードウェアをわざわざ買うのは嫌だ、と感じた人びとが、騒いでいる。Appleにジャックの現状維持を求める陳情のデジタル署名が、20万名を超えている。以下が、その陳情書の文章だ:

Appleが再び、同社のすべての顧客を食い物にしようとしている。

ForbesとFastCompanyの報道によると、Appleは今年の後半のiPhone 7より、標準の3.5ミリヘッドフォンジャックを廃止する計画だ。Appleにそれを思いとどまらせることができるのは、大規模な国際的キャンペーンのみだ。

ジャックの廃止によってiPhoneのユーザが、自分たちが今使っているハイファイのヘッドフォンをリプレースするために新たな出費を強いられるだけでなく、たった一つのことから大量の電子製品廃棄物が作り出され、それがリサイクルされないこともありえる。国連によると、世界の電子製品廃棄物の90%もが各年、不法に売買されたり投棄されている。

Appleに、顧客とわれわれの惑星を尊敬するよう、忠告しよう。標準のヘッドフォンジャックを守ろう。

これは、典型的なApple流のやり方だ。数年前には同社は、iPodの元からあるドックコネクタを新しいのに変えて、大量のコードやケーブルや充電器を陳腐化した。

Appleはグリーンな企業というイメージを広めているが、実際には、Appleが再生可能エネルギーに投資したり、有毒化学物質の段階的な使用廃止を始めたのは、社会的圧力が無視できぬほど大きくなってからだ。それはピープルパワーの成果だった。今度もまた、成果を上げられるだろう。

Appleに、標準のヘッドフォンジャックを維持し、その計画的陳腐化をやめるよう、訴えよう!。

でも、噂は噂にすぎない。正しいかもしれないけど、Appleが何かをするまでは、何も分からない。しかも、インターネットはドラマが好きだし、人びとは陳情の署名が好きだ。それに対し、母艦から何も反応はないと思うが、でも人びとは声が届くことを期待している。
