［バグダッド １１日 ロイター］ - イラクのマスーム大統領は１１日、イスラム教シーア派政党連合のハイダル・アバディ氏を新首相に指名し、国内で激化する戦闘の収束に向け、広範な新内閣の組閣を命じた。
ただ、マリキ氏が米国などの圧力に屈して退陣に応じるかは不明。マリキ氏はアバディ氏の指名についてまだコメントなどはしていないが、マリキ氏の義理の息子はロイターに対し、指名を覆すために法的手段に訴える可能性があると述べた。
アバディ氏はフセイン政権下のイラクを逃れ、長く英国に亡命していた。マスーム大統領との会談を受け、「イラクに対するテロリストによる攻撃に対抗するため、一致団結する必要がある」と述べた。
マリキ首相、新首相指名を違憲と批判

マリキ氏はテレビ演説で、マスーム大統領による新首相指名を危険な違憲行為と批判。「われわれは違反行為を是正する」と述べた。
オバマ米大統領は「首相候補指名は前途を期待できる前進」
［チルマーク（米マサチューセッツ州） １１日 ロイター］ - オバマ米大統領は１１日、イラクは首相候補を指名したことにより前途を期待できる前進を図ったと称賛したうえで、同国のあらゆる宗派の人々の希望に応える挙国一致内閣の設立を求めた。
オバマ大統領は、休暇先で記者団に対し、米軍がイラク北部の過激派勢力に対する空爆に成功し、イラクやクルドに対する軍事面の助言を強化していると説明。
また、新首相に指名されたハイダル・アバディ氏との会話の中で、イラク国内の異なる民族や宗派を代表する政権を迅速に樹立するよう要請したことを明らかにした。
オバマ大統領は「新政権は難しい課題を抱えている」と指摘。「包括的な統治で国民の信頼感を回復し、決意を示すよう一歩ずつ取り組む必要がある」と語った。
