社民党は、同性愛者であることを公表した石川大我・東京都豊島区議（40）を、次期衆院選で比例区東京ブロックの単独1位に擁立する方針を決めた。朝日新聞デジタルが11月27日に伝えた。
本人もTwitterで以下のように表明している。
石川氏は2013年にあった社民党首選に立候補し、敗れていたが、「党改革推進本部」のメンバーに選ばれていた。
過去に同性愛者を公表して国政選挙に当選した議員は、2013年5月に参院比例区で当選（室井邦彦議員の辞職に伴う繰り上げ当選）し、同年7月まで1期務めた尾辻かな子氏がいる。
