けが人がシナゴーグから救急車に搬送される
イスラエルの新聞「ザ・タイムズ・オブ・イスラエル」によると、死亡した警官は、30歳のジダン・サイーフさんだという。18日の朝、パレスチナ人とみられる2人組がハール・ノフ地区のシナゴーグを襲撃し、サイーフさんは犯人らとの銃撃戦中に頭部を撃たれたという。2人組は、ラビ(ユダヤ教の宗教的指導者) ら4人を殺害し、その後射殺された。
18日の襲撃は、最近6年間でエルサレムで起きた事件としては、最も被害者が多いものとなった。当時、シナゴーグには25人の信者がいたという。
シナゴーグ襲撃事件を受けて会見するネタニヤフ首相
BBCによると、イスラエルのベンヤミン・ネタニヤフ首相は、シナゴーグへの襲撃事件を受けて、「エルサレムのための戦い」に必ず勝利すると宣言した。
ネタニヤフ首相は、「テロリストに対しては断固たる措置を取る」と宣言し、「我々を国や首都から追い払おうとする者がいるが、失敗に終わるだろう」と述べた。
ネタニヤフ首相は、襲撃犯の自宅を破壊するよう指示を出し、「我々はイスラエルをめぐる戦争のまっただ中にある。エルサレムは我々の永遠の首都だ」と述べた。また、首相は今回の事件について、「礼拝中に起きた無惨な襲撃」とし、事件後、パレスチナ自治区ガザで「称賛の叫び」が上がっているとして非難した。
