北京オリンピックのリレー、日本が銀メダルに繰り上げか

陸上の男子トラック種目で日本が唯一、オリンピックで獲得したメダルの色が変わる可能性が出てきた。

2008年北京オリンピック男子400メートルリレーで金メダルを獲得したジャマイカの1走、ネスタ・カーターが同オリンピックのドーピング再検査で陽性反応を示したと、ジャマイカ・オリンピック委員会が6月3日に明らかにした。もしジャマイカのリレーチームが金メダルを剥奪されれば、銅の日本は銀に繰り上がる可能性がある。朝日新聞デジタルなどが報じた。

当時のリレーメンバーたちの思いは複雑だ。北京五輪で感極まってバトンを高々と放り投げたアンカーの朝原宣治さんは4日、「迷惑です。『何だよ』という気持ちです」と心境を語った。メダルが銀に変わっても、大きな喜びはない。それより、ドーピング違反で競技の魅力が損なわれることを懸念している。

カーターと同じ1走だった塚原直貴(富士通)も困惑した表情だった。「正直複雑。ヨーイドンで2番じゃないので。一つ上がるのはうれしいけど」。

ジャマイカは、北京オリンピックでは、ウサイン・ボルトを擁して世界新記録で優勝を飾った

◆北京五輪男子400メートルリレー 日本(塚原、末続、高平、朝原)は決勝、ジャマイカ、トリニダード・トバゴに続いて38秒15の3位でフィニッシュ。トラック種目でのメダルは1928年アムステルダム大会女子800メートル銀の人見絹枝以来80年ぶりだった。
