安田純平さん、どんな人? シリアで拘束されたと見られる動画が公開

シリアで武装勢力で拘束されたという情報とともに、本人と見られる映像が公開された戦場ジャーナリストの安田純平さんとは、どんな人物なのか。これまでの歩みをまとめた。

■2004年にはイラク取材中に拘束

埼玉新聞などによると、安田さんは1974年生まれで現在42歳。埼玉県入間市出身で、県立川越高校を卒業後、一橋大学に入学した。1997年に地方紙の「信濃毎日新聞社」に入社して新聞記者となった。山小屋し尿処理問題や脳死肝移植問題などを担当し、2002年にアフガニスタンとイラクを休暇を使って取材していた。2003年に信濃毎日新聞社を退社しフリージャーナリストとなった。

2004年4月14日、イラクの首都バグダッド郊外で、アメリカ軍の爆撃を取材するため車で移動していたところ、現地の武装勢力に拘束された。同行していた市民団体メンバーの日本人男性と一緒に拘束され、3日後に解放された。武装勢力から「アメリカのスパイ」の容疑をかけられ、民家などに監禁されたという。解放後、安田さんは「身元確認を目的とする拘束で、紳士的な扱いを受けた」と説明した

その後も何度もイラクやシリアを取材しており、著書に『囚われのイラク』『誰が私を「人質」にしたのか』『ルポ戦場出稼ぎ労働者』などがある。

■「日本は無関係ではない」紛争地帯を取材する必要性を語る

安田さんは2015年6月下旬、シリア内戦を取材するためトルコからシリア北西部に越境。しかし、予定していた7月中旬を過ぎても帰国していなかった。

時事通信では、安田さんのシリア入国は、過激派組織「イスラム国」(IS)に殺害されたジャーナリスト後藤健二さんに関する取材などが目的だったとみられると報じている。

安田さんは入国前の2015年1月、「なぜ日本人が紛争地帯を取材する必要があるのか」という趣旨の質問に「『無関心』こそが、いま起きている問題を引き起こした」などとして、次のように答えていた。

知る必要がないという「無関心」こそが、いま起きている問題を引き起こしたと言っても、過言ではありません。シリアの内戦やイラクの圧政に国際社会が「無関心」であるうちに、「見捨てられた人々」の間に一気に入り込み、勢力を伸ばしたのが今のイスラム国です。

また、周辺地域では数多くの日本人が仕事をしています。経済的にも日本とは切っても切れない関係にあるということです。日本は無関係だという立場を取るのは難しいでしょう。

■映像が公開した男性「ヌスラ戦線に拘束されている」

国際NGO「国境なき記者団」は2015年12月、安田さん国際テロ組織アルカイダ系の「ヌスラ戦線」支配地域で拉致・拘束され、身代金が要求されていると発表したが、まもなく撤回していた

しかし、年が明けた3月16日になって安田さんとみられる男性の映像が、ネット上で公開された。男性は、家族への思いを語った後、日本政府を念頭に対応を求めるような発言をした

NHKニュースによると、映像を公開したシリア人の男性は「安田さんはアルカイダ系の武装組織ヌスラ戦線に拘束されており、映像は解放に向けた仲介役を務めている人物から16日に入手した」と話している

現在のところ、この男性が安田さんかどうか日本政府は見解を明らかにしていない。岸田文雄外相は同日、「映像は承知しており、その映像の分析を行っているところだ」と述べたが、記者団の「映像の男性が安田さん本人と確認したのか」という質問には、「事案の性質上、これ以上は控える」と明言を避けた。
