F1オーストラリアGP決勝が3月16日、メルボルンで開かれた。日本人ドライバーの小林可夢偉（ケータハム）にとっては2年ぶりの復帰戦となったが、スタート直後の1コーナーのブレーキがうまくかからず、前を行くウィリアムズのフェリペ・マッサに激突。予選の結果、14番手からのスタートだったが、決勝は1周も走ることなく無念のリタイアとなった。

優勝はメルセデスのニコ・ロズベルグ。2位にはレッドブルのダニエル・リカルドが、オーストラリア人ドライバーとして初の母国表彰台を飾ったが、燃料に関する違反で失格となった。
3位に入り、F1デビューと同時に表彰台に上がることになったマクラーレンの新人ケビン・マグヌッセンが2位に繰り上がることになった。
