インドのカシミール地方は風光明媚な場所として知られる。そんなカシミールが、1カ月続いた大雪によって、幻想的な冬の景色に変わった。カシミール渓谷ではこの1月に25年ぶりとなる記録的な大雪に見舞われた。

カシミール渓谷では寒さが続き、ほとんどの地域で氷点下の気温を記録した。カシミールは季節で州都が代わり、夏はスリナガル、冬はジャンムーになる。
地元の人たちや観光客は雪を最大限に生かして、美しい氷の彫刻を作ったり、雪を使った遊びを楽しんだりしている。
タイムズ・オブ・インディア紙によると、地元の人たちは、厳しい寒さが続くこの時期（12月21日～1月31日）のことを「チライ・カラン」と呼ぶ。この寒さのおかげで、夏の時期に作物がよく育つと期待できるという。ヒマラヤ山脈の雪が作物に水を供給してくれるためだ。

Life Remains Disrupted In Kashmir Valley After Snowfall(10 of15)

It has been constantly snowing in Kashmir since Thursday morning, which has already broken the season\'s longest dry spell in the region in 40 years.
